CBS News) Want to be an entrepreneur, but not sure you're up to the challenge of owning your own business? Actually, women own and operate 40 percent of all the businesses in America. But the idea of starting your own business can be a little intimidating. That's ere "turnkey companies" come in. They don't require much of a financial investment and most of the set-up work has already been done. Think Avon or Mary Kay. Jen Groover is the author of "What If? and Why Not?: How to Transform Your Fears Into Action and Start the Business of Your Dreams". She says making money and starting your own business in your spare time doesn't have to be daunting.
Turnkey company's "are essentially a company that is already set up for you. The operations and the products are ready to go. You have all of the tools and technology at your fingertips, so essentially, you are given everything and just have to "turn the key" to get started. These companies are very low risk because you're working with brands that have been built over generations. You'll also get personal discounts on the product you're selling and, many have web support, education support and meetings with other people who are working with the organization who can help you learn and grow. Groover says there are 3 things every woman should consider before choosing a turnkey company: 1. choose something you're passionate about. You can't sell something you don't believe in. 2. know what it takes to get involved. For some, it's $25. For others, it might be $250. Third, you really want to assess the tools that will be available to you that you feel you'll need to support you in getting things done.
The companies Groover spotlighted:
Usborne Books & More, perfect for moms with young children.
Silpada. Silpada has been really successful for people because the jewelry they're offering is affordable and upscale looking. To get started, a representative purchases a Silpada Designs kit. The average cost of a Silpada Designs kit is $200 plus 50 percent off any jewelry purchased.
Avon, the grandmmother of turnkey companies and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

There seemed to be endless obstacles... it seemed that the root cause of them all was fear.

I worked "home parties" when my kids were little so I could be a stay at home mom, when they were all in school I went back into what I then called a "real job". I now sell Avon again and love it. I sometimes wonder where I would be now if I had continued with one of the party sales lines back then. It really is a great way for women to make money, meet people and help change lives.

EJ Foxx taking a break under the Cat Country Tent at Delmarva Star Competition at the Big Thursday Festival, with the a FUTURE contestant!!!

My name is EJ Foxx, and this is my bi...
In High School my nickname was Lucy..(imagine that!!) As far back as I can remember, I have always been a Calamity June! I could write a book, I think I'll call it "EJ's Follies". I've always been an animal lover...when I was 4 I brought home this giant Doberman, tied him to the back railing and gave him some water. He was FROTHING FROM THE MOUTH, I thought he was THIRSTY! They had to come and take him away...I was devestated, at 4 I had no idea what Rabies was. My instant bond with furry friends has continued into adulthood. I am currently on the Board at the Humane Society of Wicomico County. I adore children, although I do not have any, except my Husky Mix Shana!

I am a native New Yawka, so naturally, Broadway is in my blood. It was my first love, be on the stage. Although my dream was to be Broadway bound, I ended up doing "OFF BROADWAY' Touring for many years. ( Grease, Caberet, Funny Girl, How To Marry Miilionaire (that didn't work!!)and How to Succeed in Business!Being on the road is tough, so I opted to try the next BEST thing...RADIO! I studied Theater and Communications in College, so it was the right thing to do. I started a small AM station in Annapolis, MD. One day I received a call from a man who said that he was the President of United Stations in Baltimore. He stated that he was driving through town, and heard my voice.. the conversation went like this. "Hello EJ, this is the President of United Stations in Baltimore, how would you like to come and work for me?" I looked at the phone and ," Who is this?" Once again, he identified himself, and I replied, " No really, who is this?" After having trouble believing someone hadn't put this guy up to a prank..he said... " Well, I tell you what, call my secretary and set up an appointment if you are interested!! As it turns out, he WAS for real. I worked in Baltimore for many years, went to D.C. in the late 80's and eventually came to the Eastern Shore! I've been for here ten years and love it. I love the Shore, I love the lifestyle, and most importantly, I love the PEOPLE! Each day it is a pleasure to talk to you, and always so nice to see you when we do our live broadcasts. I feel as though we have become friends. That's what makes this area so special. Thank you for your support.
