"I would like to nominate my mom, Diane Carey. My mom is a volunteer firefighter/emt with the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Dept and a registered nurse. She spends countless hours volunteering to help with everything from fundraisers to cpr training. A few years ago she was awarded EMT of the year for Sussex County for going above and beyond to help a patient in her own time. Just recently she was at a walk for the March of Dimes and went to assist a person who was injured when the paramedics were not able to be reached immediately. She will help anyone in an instant and never thinks twice about doing it! She frequently helps to fundraise money for various charities like the March of Dimes and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This past summer she was diagnosed with cancer and completed her treatments and continued right on with all of her volunteering and work. She makes me proud every day and I hope to instill her values of helping others into her granddaughter. "
