Community Heroes Winner
Thomas McGee & Chad Hurley of Sharptown, MD
Nominated by Janice
"It was already dark, about 9 o'clock, 45 degrees and damp that february night. Turning onto my street, which deadends onto deep water(the Nanticoke river), there was a car, lights on parked past my neighbors house perpendicular to the road with its headlights on. Inquiring to my neighbor where their dog got away from, and he was looking to find him, so I proceeded home.
An hour later, there were sirens, lights flashing and the sound of diesel engines-emergency vehicles lining the street. A block away, two young guys doing what young guys do, were just 'chilling out' on the back porch, chatting away, having fun. That was 20 year old Chad Hurley. He was visting his good friend, 18 year old Thomas Mcgee.
Through the heavily wooded area behind the house, they heard moaning and crying sounds from their porch where they sat. Immediately they saught out looking to find what the sounds were, and where they were coming from.
They found 86 year old Mr. John Edward Goslee, in the water. He had slid down the edge of the embarkment into the river. By the grace of god, it was low tide, and those two young men were sitting on the porch that night.
Chad immediately went in the river while Thomas called 911. Responders got John Edwards out of the water, rushing him to PRMC, where he was edmitted overnight, treated and survived. He was sufferring from hyperthermia as he haad been in the water about an hour.
I'm nominating both Chad Hurley, and Thomas Mcgee to be community heroes! They quickly responded to seek out unkown cries that turned out to be Mr.Goslee. Without hesitation They immediately called 911, and the Sharptown volunteer fire department qucikly arrived.
No doubt, 86 year old Mr. Goslee would not have survived that evening, facing all the elements.
Hands down, both Chad Hurley and Thomas Mcgee are truly community Heroes!
